WORKSHOP ASSIGNMENT
“Mandala” The world of Graphic Design

In common use, mandala has become a generic term for any plan, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a microcosm of the universe.

Create a ”Mandala”, a sphere-like graphic presentation that represents your notions of the world of graphic design.

MEANS OF EXECUTION:

• free; black and white + one color;
• size/format: square 110 cm x 110 cm

TECHNICAL SPECS:

• can be totally hand-made
• vectorized files (Illustrator) as PDFs (Rgb color profile)
• bitmap files (Photoshop) for instance as
• Tiff files (Rgb color profile), resolution 360 dpi

TOOLS WHICH MIGHT BE NEEDED:

- paper for taking notes and sketching (also big size if possible for mind-maps)

- tape (for attaching smaller papers together)

- pens, pencils, colored felt pens etc., color marker pens, some people may need paper knives

- possibly some cameras (for taking visual notes)

- scanner/s, computers (Illustrator, PhotoShop)

- roll printer (size?)

Monday 20 October:
10 am - 5 pm:
Workshop start:

workshop assignment /
orientation: group work

Tuesday 21 October:
10.00 am - 12:
workshop assignment: individual research/ sketching / AT HOME OR ANYWAY

1 pm - 5 pm at the school / LIBRARY MEETING ROOM:
report on first ideas, individual
research and sketching continues

Wednesday 22 October (we will confirm the room on Tuesday):
10.00 am - 5 pm:
individual report on progress:
workshop assignment: individual work continues

NEXT WEEK:
Wednesday 29 October:
10.00 am - 5 pm:
report on progress workshop assignment: individual work continues

Thursday 30 October:
10.00 am -5 pm:
report on progress / workshop assignment: individual work continues possible printing preparations

Friday 31 October:
10.00 am:
possible printing preparations
1 pm: final presentations
